Call of Duty: Ghosts

Activision has recently announced the newest game in the Call of Duty series, called Ghosts, set for release on November 5th, 2013. It will be available on Playstation 3, PC, Nintendo Wii U, Xbox 360, as well as the two next gen consoles set to be released around the same time, the PS4 and the Xbox One.

As Infinity Ward concluded the Modern Warfare storyline with MW3, Ghosts is an entirely new series with a new story, cast, and setting from the previous games. They are also set to release the game on an entirely new engine, which should improve overall gameplay. This is particularly exciting with the release of the next gen consoles, as we get to see the capabilities of these new consoles along with (hopefully) significant improvements to certain parts of the Call of Duty world.

What we DO know so far (confirmed):

Story

America is losing a war, and we are fighting for the underdogs - our squad is a group of soldiers from remnants of all US special forces
Dogs now act as a squad member, with roles such as defusing bombs

Game Engine

Game world will properly account for curvature - "SubD"
New mantle ability - running towards a low wall will allow players to leap over it, continuing their momentum
New slide ability - can be used to move quickly into cover
More interactive game world that feels more alive, i.e. fish and animals have AI
Improved graphics with increased textures, from what has been shown the graphics actually do look a fair bit better

Multiplayer - trailer released August 14:

The first details about multiplayer were finally released by Infinity Ward. The game will include 14 maps, along with more than 20 new killstreaks, 7 new multiplayer modes and many new perks and customization possibilities.

The customization is apparently even more advanced than MW3's system, as there are now up to 20,000 possible combinations, which includes custom soldier appearance and equipment. There's an exciting feature they added this year as well; you can now play as a female soldier!

Tokens are earned along with experience points, which can be spent on weapons, equipment and perks. Attachments and killstreaks do not cost anything. Also deathstreaks have been removed from the game.

We can expect 30 new weapons in the game, including a new class of weapons called Marksman Riles.  They will provide the versatility of assault rifles, while dishing out the stopping power of assault rifles.

Multiplayer maps are now much more dynamic, and are even destructible.  This means that traps can be set, and walls and many other objects can be destroyed.

During the reveal, an executive producer at Infinity Ward said "This is the biggest overhaul of multi-player we've done since the original Modern Warfare" All of this does sound very promising, now we just need to wait until November 5 to see how much of a success the game really is!
